What is a 1up?

A one-up is an adjective describing the presence of advantage over someone or something. In the 1960’s, ‘1Up’ was used as a flashing notification in video games to signify to Player One that it was their turn to play. Eventually, 1UP became synonymous with an extra life to help absorb mistakes and stave off a ‘game over’.

how does that relate to my story?

Born to two musicians in Georgia during the collapse of the Soviet Union, a life of success or possibility was far from assured. Amidst food shortages and instability, my parents uprooted themselves, left their former lives behind and migrated to Australia to prevent a ‘game over’ for their family.

Despite the 1UP, I experienced no shortage of adversity in the years that followed. Only by cultivating mental toughness and resilience did I manage to turn the inevitability of discomfort into to my advantage. At that point, I began to seek difficult experiences proactively. The imagery associated with my brand is a testament to this.

As Player One in my story, I do my best to honour the spirit of play whether it is in the mountains, the gym or with my clients.

how does that relate to our work together?

After having spent my life and career experiencing the transformative power that the mind has on our capacity for resilience, growth and success, I’m interested in harnessing my experiences to help others gain their own psychological advantage.

The philosophy of my practice is to equip leaders with the 1UP they need to deal with the pressures of leadership with confidence and adaptability.

My coaching supports clients in tackling their biggest obstacles without fear of ‘game over’. Together, we jump into the driver’s seat and use the strength and adaptability of your mind to ascend to the next level.

If you’re looking for a sign that it is your turn to play, this is it!
